This Devon Junior Cup quarter final tie had been re-arranged from before Christmas, but was worth the wait for home fans as New Cross ran in six tries in a one-sided contest at Five Lanes.

The hosts, who had gone three games without a win, gave starts to Lewis Vicary, Nick Player and Simon Harris.

Ryan Wotton returned at fly half after dislocating a shoulder, and Mark Bailey made a welcome return to the second row.

New Cross played into a stiff breeze in the first half, so the ball was kept tight and some impressive rolling mauls were used to gain territory.

Number 8 Tim Prowse went close and a kick ahead to the corner just eluded Vicary before the first score arrived.

Quick ball saw Harris power through four would-be tacklers to touch down near the posts; Wotton converted.

Another forward surge gave Wotton an easy penalty, which was duly converted to leave New Cross 10-nil up at the break.
